echome for Parkinson's

Date

Rosemary Spencer and Louise McDowall have been awarded a DYCP grant by Arts Council England in order to explore the application of echome in movement sessions with people living with Parkinson's. Both Rosemary and Louise are accredited practitioners in Dance for Parkinson's and the aim of the award is to develop their creative practice further by exploring the use of sound and movement interaction.

The generation of sound out of the person's movement has been attracting sustained interest in clinical research on Parkinson's and there have been several projects that explored the use of movement sonification technology for gait and balance. You can watch here an interview with Ro, talking about her experience of using echome as part of the Brand New Sense project.

We are very excited to engage with this body of research and develop the echome pedagogy in response to the clinical picture of the condition. Rosemary and Louise are planning to work with a small group of participants, whose input will be significant in testing the relevance of echome within the specific context. The project will run until September 2024 and we will be going in the studio for the first session in April. So watch this space for further updates!
